It is with great shock and deep sorrow that I received the news of the sudden passing of Shihan Valmir Teles (52), Branch Chief of our Brazil Branch, who passed away due to illness on April 4, 2026.
Shihan Teles devoted his life to Kyokushin Karate in Brazil. Not only in times of prosperity, but also during truly difficult and severe circumstances, such as when his dojo was struck by flooding in 2024, he consistently demonstrated strong determination and leadership, guiding and uniting the Brazil Branch with distinction.
As I had been sincerely looking forward to seeing him again at next year’s World Championships, I am deeply saddened and at a loss for words upon receiving this unexpected news.
I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude for Shihan Teles’s tremendous contributions, and I offer my heartfelt prayers for his peaceful rest.
Regarding the future of the Brazil Branch, we will extend our fullest support, not only from Japan, but together with all Sokyokushin branches around the world, offering encouragement, cooperation, and unity.
