The 8th Budo Giant Challenge was held on October 22nd, 2022, in the city of Chateauguay, Québec.

This was one of the first karate tournaments held since the world stopped in March 2020. More than 40 dojos, including those from many different organizations, participated.

Over 330 participants coming from across Canada, from east to west, from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Dawson Creek, British Columbia!! 5 Canadian provinces as well as Vermont, USA took part in the largest Budo Giant Challenge competition to date.

This tournament was organized by the Perez Dojo, where Shihan Hugo A. Perez is the Chief instructor as well as being the Canada’s Branch Chief.

There were more than 45 judges and referees giving their time and expertise helping to make this tournament run smoothly, effectively, and professionally. They came from many different karate associations including Kyokushinkan, Kanreikai, Shinkyokushin, Rengokai, IFK and So-Kyokushin.

During the morning of the competition, children from 5 to 12 years old competed in Kata and Kumite, while after lunch, 13 years old and older (including the adult’s groups) had their turn. The Elite Kata and the Full contact groups finished off the day. It was a huge success for all, and everyone is already talking about, planning, and looking forward to next year!

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this tournament a great success!

Hope to see you all once again in 2023!
